The Unlawfulness of Marriage Through Breastfeeding

SUMMARY: Breastfeeding creates a relationship of motherhood between the woman and the child, making marriage between them unlawful.

It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Prophet said: "What becomes unlawful (for marriage) through birth becomes unlawful through breast-feeding".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect family ties and avoid any kind of inappropriate relationships with those close relatives or have been breastfed by one another .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that breastfeeding creates a relationship of motherhood between the woman and the child, making marriage between them unlawful. This is because breastfeeding establishes a bond similar to that of birth, which makes it haram for them to marry each other. The Prophet Muhammad taught this lesson to ensure that people do not marry someone who is related to them through breastfeeding. He also wanted people to be aware that even if they are not related by blood, they can still be related through other means such as breastfeeding. This hadith teaches us about the importance of respecting family ties and avoiding any kind of inappropriate relationships with those who are close relatives or have been breastfed by one another.
