The Tashahhud Prayer for Marriage

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the Tashahhud for Salah and the Tashahhud upon Al-Hajah, which is a prayer that should be recited on the occasion of marriage.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah said: "The Messenger of Allah taught us the Tashahhud for Salah and the Tashahhud upon Al-Hajah. He said: 'The Tashahhud upon the occasion of marriage is: Alhamdu lillahi nasta'inahu wa nastaghfiruhu, wa na'udhu billahi min shururi anfusina, man yahdih Illahu fala mudilla lahu wa man yudlil Illahu fala hadiya lahu, wa ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu (Praise be to Allah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allah from the evil of our own souls. Whomsoever Allah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger)'. Then he recited three Verses".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains how to recite the Tashahhud prayer during marriage. The Prophet Muhammad taught us this prayer which includes praising Allah, seeking His help and forgiveness, seeking refuge from our own evil souls, acknowledging that whoever Allah guides will never be led astray and whoever Allah leaves astray no one can guide them. It also includes bearing witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah and bearing witness that Muhammad is His slave and messenger. After reciting these words three verses are then recited. This hadith teaches us to always seek guidance from Allah in all aspects of life including marriage as He alone can provide true guidance in our lives. We should also remember to thank Him for all His blessings by praising Him constantly as well as asking for His help when we need it most. Furthermore, we must always bear witness to our faith in Him by declaring there is none worthy of worship but Him alone.
