Marriage of Fatimah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) refused Abu Bakr and Umar's proposal to marry Fatimah, but accepted Ali's proposal and married her to him.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Buraidah: It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Buraidah that his father said: "Abu Bakr and 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, proposed marriage to Fatimah but the Messenger of Allah said: 'She is young'. Then 'Ali proposed marriage to her and he married her to him".
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حُرَيْثٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ وَاقِدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ خَطَبَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ رضى الله عنهما فَاطِمَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ إِنَّهَا صَغِيرَةٌ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَخَطَبَهَا عَلِيٌّ فَزَوَّجَهَا مِنْهُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the marriage of the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH - Fatima. When Abu Bakr and Umar proposed marriage to her, the Messenger of Allah said that she was too young for marriage. However when Ali proposed marriage to her, he accepted it and married her off to him. This hadith teaches us that we should always respect our elders' decisions even if we don't agree with them at first because they know what is best for us in any situation. It also teaches us that we should be patient in difficult times as Allah will always provide a way out for us if we are patient enough.
