Sunan an-Nasai 3220 (Book 26, Hadith 25) #17832
Marrying a Virgin vs. Previously-Married Woman

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad asked Jabir why he did not marry a virgin instead of a previously-married woman.

Narrated Jabir: It was narrated that Jabir said: "The Messenger of Allah met me and said: 'O Jabir, have you got married to a woman since I last saw you?' I said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah'. He said: 'To a virgin or to a previously-married woman?' I said: 'To a previously-married woman'. He said: 'Why not a virgin, so she could play with you?'"

QUICK LESSONS:
Think carefully when making decisions about marriage , Be mindful of your words when speaking with others .

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad is teaching us about marriage and the importance of marrying someone who is still a virgin. He asked Jabir why he chose to marry someone who was previously married instead of choosing to marry someone who was still a virgin. This implies that it is preferable to marry someone who has never been married before because they can bring more joy and playfulness into the marriage than one who has already been married before. The Prophet's advice also shows us that it is important to think carefully when making decisions about marriage and that we should consider all our options before making any final decisions.

The hadith also teaches us an important lesson about being mindful of our words when speaking with others; even though the Prophet's question may have seemed innocent enough, it could have caused Jabir some embarrassment or discomfort if he felt like his decision was being judged or criticized in any way. Therefore, we should always be careful with how we phrase our questions and comments so as not to hurt anyone's feelings or make them feel uncomfortable in any way.
