Seeking Reward and Fame is Not Accepted by Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that any deed done for the purpose of seeking reward or fame will not be accepted by Allah.

It was narrated that Abu 'Umamah Al-Bahili said: "A man came to the Prophet and said: 'What do you think of a man who fights seeking reward and fame - what will he have?' The Messenger of Allah said: 'He will not have anything'. He repeated it three times, and the Prophet said to him: 'He will not have anything'. Then he said: 'Allah does not accept any deed, except that which is purely for Him, and seeking His Face'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Do actions purely for the sake of pleasing Allah and seeking His Face.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that any action we do should be purely for the sake of pleasing Allah and seeking His Face. We should not do anything to seek reward or fame from people because it will not be accepted by Him. We must remember that all our deeds are being watched and judged by Him so we must strive to make sure they are done with sincerity and purity of intention. It is important to remember that even if we don't get recognition from people, if our intentions are pure then it will still be accepted by Allah.

The Prophet's response to the man who asked him about what would happen if someone fought for reward or fame was clear - he said three times "He will not have anything." This emphasizes how important it is for us to make sure our intentions are pure when doing any deed as only then can we expect acceptance from God Almighty.
