Avoiding Extremism in Religion

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad warned against going to extremes in religious matters, as those who came before were destroyed due to this.

It was narrated that Abu Al-Aliyah said: "Ibn Abbas said: "On the morning of Al-Aqabah, while he was on his mount, the Messenger of Allah said to me: "Pick up (some pebbles) for me". So I picked up some pebbles for him that were the size of date stones or fingertips, and when I placed them in his hand he said: "Like these. And beware of going to extremes in religious matters, for those who came before you were destroyed because of going to extremes in religious matters".

QUICK LESSONS:
Practice religion with moderation and balance

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abu Al-Aliyah and Ibn Abbas speaks of the importance of avoiding extremism in religious matters. This is because those who came before us were destroyed due to their extreme practices. The Prophet Muhammad was on his mount when he asked for some pebbles, which he then used as an example of how one should not go to extremes in religious matters. He was warning against taking things too far, as it can lead to destruction and chaos. It is important for us to remember this lesson so that we can practice our religion with moderation and balance.
