Completing Hajj Through Arafat

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that Hajj is Arafat and whoever catches up with the night of Arafat before dawn comes on the night of Jam (Al-Muzdalifah), their Hajj is complete.

It was narrated that Abdur-Rahman bin Yamur said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah when people came to him and asked him about Hajj. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Hajj is Arafat. Whoever catches up with the night of Arafat before dawn comes on the night of Jam (Al-Muzdalifah), his Hajj is complete'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Visit Arafat before sunrise on the day after Eid al Adha

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abdur-Rahman bin Yamur explains that one of the essential components of performing a successful pilgrimage to Mecca is to visit the plain of Arafat. This plain lies between Mecca and Mina and it is here where pilgrims gather for prayer on the day of Eid al Adha. Furthermore, if a pilgrim manages to reach this place before sunrise on the day after Eid al Adha then their pilgrimage will be considered complete. This hadith teaches us about an important part in completing our religious obligations as Muslims and encourages us to strive for excellence in fulfilling them. It also reminds us that Allah rewards those who are diligent in their worship and obedience towards Him.
