Following the Prophet's Example

SUMMARY: Umar saw the Prophet kissing a stone and followed suit.

It was narrated Abbas bin Rabiah said: "I saw Umar coming to the Stone and saying: 'I know that you are just a stone; had I not seen the Messenger of Allah kiss you I would not have kissed you'. Then he came close to it and kissed it". (Sahih) Chpater 148. How to Kiss It

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow in the footsteps of those you admire and respect; take small actions seriously even if they seem insignificant at first glance; show respect for authority figures.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Umar ibn al-Khattab saw the Prophet Muhammad kiss a stone and followed suit. This shows us that we should always strive to follow in the footsteps of our beloved prophet. We should take his example as our guide in life and try to emulate him in all aspects of life. The hadith also teaches us that even though something may seem insignificant or small, it can still be important if it was done by someone we admire or respect. In this case, Umar respected the prophet so much that he was willing to do something as simple as kissing a stone just because he saw him do it first.
