Sunan an-Nasai 2901 (Book 24, Hadith 284) #17513
Rebuilding the Kaaba

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) wanted to rebuild the Kaaba on the foundation of Ibrahim (AS) and make it bigger, but he was unable to do so due to his people's recent conversion from disbelief.

It was narrated that Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: "Were it not for the fact that your people have recently left disbelief, I would have knocked down the House and rebuilt it on the foundation of Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and I would have given it a back door. For when the Quraish built the House, they made it too small'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for improvement in our lives; Be fair towards others; Uphold justice at all times; Respect religious sites like Kaaba .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Aishah speaks about how Prophet Muhammad wanted to rebuild the Kaaba on the foundation of Ibrahim, peace be upon him. He wanted to make it bigger and give it a back door as well. However, he was unable to do so because his people had recently left disbelief and converted into Islam. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive for improvement in our lives and not be content with what we have achieved already. It also shows us that even though Prophet Muhammad could have done something for himself, he chose not to because it would have been unfair towards his people who were still new converts into Islam.
