Permissible Animals to Kill in Islam

SUMMARY: Killing certain animals is permissible in Islam.

It was narrated that Ibn Umar said: "Hafsa the wife of the Prophet said: 'The Messenger of Allah said: Thee are five animals for which there is no sin on the one who kill them: Scorpions, crows, kites, mice and vicious dogs'."
أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّ سَالِمَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ قَالَتْ حَفْصَةُ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ خَمْسٌ مِنَ الدَّوَابِّ لاَ حَرَجَ عَلَى مَنْ قَتَلَهُنَّ الْعَقْرَبُ وَالْغُرَابُ وَالْحِدَأَةُ وَالْفَأْرَةُ وَالْكَلْبُ الْعَقُورُ

EXPLANATIONS:
According to the hadith narrated by Ibn Umar, the wife of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Hafsa, reported that the Messenger of Allah said that there are five animals for which there is no sin on the one who kills them. These animals are scorpions, crows, kites, mice and vicious dogs. This hadith teaches us that it is permissible to kill these five animals if necessary and not considered a sin in Islam. It also teaches us about mercy and compassion towards all living creatures as we should only kill these animals when absolutely necessary.
