Making Conditions During Hajj

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that when performing Hajj, one should make a condition to Allah and whatever condition is stipulated will be accepted by Allah.

Hilal bin Khabbab said: "I asked Sa'eed bin Jubair about a man who performs Hajj and stipulates a condition. He said: 'Conditions are something that people do among themselves'. I narrated the Hadith of 'Ikrimah to him, and he narrated to me from Ibn 'Abbas, that Duba'ah bint Az-Zubair bin 'Abdul-Muttalib came to the Prophet, and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I want to perform Hajj, so what should I say?' He said: 'Say: Labaik Allahumma! Labbaika wa mahilli min al-ardihayth tahbisuni (Here I am, O Allah, Here I am, and I shall exit Ihram at any place where You decree that I cannot proceed)" And whatever condition you stipulate will be accepted by your Lord".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the importance of making conditions when performing the pilgrimage of Hajj. It is narrated by Hilal bin Khabbab who asked Sa'eed bin Jubair about a man who performs Hajj and stipulates a condition. Sa'eed then narrated to him from Ibn 'Abbas, that Duba'ah bint Az-Zubair bin 'Abdul-Muttalib came to the Prophet, and said she wanted to perform Hajj. The Prophet told her to say "Labaik Allahumma! Labbaika wa mahilli min al-ardihayth tahbisuni" which means "Here I am, O Allah, Here I am, and I shall exit Ihram at any place where You decree that I cannot proceed". He also said whatever condition she stipulated would be accepted by her Lord. This hadith teaches us that we should always make conditions with our Lord when performing any religious act as it will be accepted by Him no matter what it is.
