The Prophet's Use of Perfume in Ihram

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad would use the best perfume he could find when entering Ihram.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "When the Prophet and (in his narration) Hannad said: "The Messenger of Allah "wanted to enter Ihram, he would daub the best perfume that he could find, until I saw it glistening on his head and in his beard. (sahih)

QUICK LESSONS:
Take care of physical appearance and hygiene; Strive for excellence in all aspects; Follow example set by Prophet Muhammad during pilgrimages; Respect holy sites; Perform rituals correctly according to Islamic teachings.

EXPLANATIONS:
According to the hadith narrated by 'Aishah and Hannad, it is known that when the Prophet Muhammad wanted to enter into a state of pilgrimage known as iḥrām, he would daub himself with itr or perfume. This was done until his head and beard glistened with its scent. This shows us that even during a spiritual journey such as iḥrām, one should still take care of their physical appearance and hygiene. It also teaches us that we should strive for excellence in all aspects of our lives - even something as small as using the best perfume available to us. Furthermore, this hadith also serves as an example for Muslims on how they should conduct themselves during their own pilgrimages to Makkah or other holy sites.
