The Obligation of Hajj for Children

SUMMARY: A woman asked the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) if her child was obligated to perform Hajj and he replied that she would be rewarded for it.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that: a woman held up a child of hers to the Messenger of Allah and said: "O Messenger of Allah, is there Hajj for this one?" He said: "Yes, and you will be rewarded. (Sahih) "
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً، رَفَعَتْ صَبِيًّا لَهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلِهَذَا حَجٌّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ نَعَمْ وَلَكِ أَجْرٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the obligation of performing Hajj for children. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was asked by a woman if her child was obligated to perform the pilgrimage and he replied that she would be rewarded for it. This hadith teaches us that even though children are not obligated to perform the pilgrimage, their parents will still receive a reward from Allah SWT if they do take them on this journey. It also shows us how important it is to teach our children about Islam and its rituals from an early age so they can grow up with a strong understanding of their faith. Furthermore, this hadith encourages us to take our children on religious journeys such as Hajj in order to instill in them a sense of spirituality and connection with Allah SWT.
