Sahih al-Bukhari 1787 (Book 26, Hadith 14) #1712
The Reward of Performing 'Umra

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the reward of performing 'Umra and how it is dependent on the expenses or hardship one undergoes while performing it.

Narrated Al-Aswad: That 'Aisha said, "O Allah's Messenger ! The people are returning after performing the two Nusuks (ie Hajj and 'Umra) but I am returning with one only?" He said, "Wait till you become clean from your menses and then go to at-Tan'im, assume Ihram (and after performing 'Umra) join us at such-and-such a place. But it (ie the reward if 'Umra) is according to your expenses or the hardship (which you will undergo while performing it).

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive to do your best when fulfilling religious obligations.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the reward of performing 'Umra which is a pilgrimage to Mecca. It explains that the reward for this pilgrimage depends on how much expense or hardship one has to go through in order to perform it. This means that if someone spends more money or goes through more difficulty in order to perform this pilgrimage then they will be rewarded more by Allah for their efforts. This hadith also teaches us that we should not take any religious obligation lightly and should strive to do our best when fulfilling them as Allah rewards those who put in effort and dedication into their deeds.
