Sahih al-Bukhari 1778 (Book 26, Hadith 5) #1703
The Prophet's Umra and Hajj

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) performed four 'Umras and one Hajj in his lifetime.

Narrated Qatada: I asked Anas how many times the Prophet had performed 'Umra. He replied, "Four times. I 'Umra of Hudaibiya in Dhi-l-Qa'da when the pagans hindered him; II 'Umra in the following year in Dhi-l- Qa'da after the peace treaty with them (the pagans); III 'Umra from Al-Ja'rana where he distributed the war booty". I think he meant the booty (of the battle) of Hunain. I asked, "How many times did he perform Hajj?" He (Anas) replied, "Once".

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform religious duties such as Umrah & Hajj if possible; Maintain peace with others even if they have wronged you; Give charity & help those who are less fortunate than you .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Anas ibn Malik tells us about the number of times the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ performed 'Umra and Hajj in his lifetime. He performed four 'Umras - one of which was during the Hudaibiya incident when he was hindered by pagans; another was after a peace treaty with them; and two more were from Al-Ja'rana where he distributed war booty from Hunain. He only performed one Hajj in his lifetime. This hadith teaches us that it is important to perform religious duties such as Umrah and Hajj if we are able to do so. It also shows us how important it is to maintain peace with others even if they have wronged us or hindered our progress in any way - as demonstrated by the Prophet's willingness to make a peace treaty with those who had previously hindered him at Hudaibiya. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about charity - as seen through the distribution of war bounty at Al-Ja'rana - which is an important part of Islam that should not be forgotten or neglected.
