Trading in Pre-Islamic Period

SUMMARY: This hadith explains how the people of pre-Islamic period used to do trading in two markets, Dhul-Majaz and Ukaz, but when they embraced Islam, they stopped doing so until Allah revealed a verse from the Quran allowing them to trade.

Narrated Ibn ' 'Abbas: Dhul-Majaz and Ukaz were the markets of the people during the Pre-Islamic period of ignorance. When the people embraced Islam, they disliked to do bargaining there till the following Holy Verses were revealed:-- There is no harm for you If you seek of the bounty Of your Lord (during Hajj by trading, etc) (2:198)

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow religious teachings/guidance patiently and obediently

EXPLANATIONS:
Before the advent of Islam, people used to do trading in two markets called Dhul Majaz and Ukaz. However, when they accepted Islam as their religion, they stopped doing so due to their religious beliefs. Later on Allah revealed a verse from the Quran which allowed them to trade again during Hajj season. This hadith teaches us that we should always follow what is prescribed by our religion and not go against it even if it means giving up something that we are accustomed to or like doing. We should also be patient and wait for divine guidance whenever we are confused about something instead of taking matters into our own hands.
