The Significance of Fasting in Shaban

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) liked to fast in the month of Shaban as it is a time when deeds are taken up to Allah.

Usamah bin Zaid said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I do not see you fasting any month as much as Shaban'. He said: 'That is a month to which people do not pay much attention, between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which the deeds are taken up to the Lord of the worlds, and I like that my deeds be taken up when I am fasting"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Fast during Sha’ban; Increase acts of worship such as praying more often; Take advantage of blessings from God; Show devotion towards God; Gain rewards from Him

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Usamah bin Zaid speaks about the importance of fasting during the month of Shaban. This is a special month that falls between Rajab and Ramadan and is often overlooked by many people. However, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was very keen on fasting during this period as he believed that his deeds would be taken up to the Lord of the Worlds at this time. Therefore, it is important for Muslims to take advantage of this blessed month and increase their acts of worship such as fasting and praying more often than usual. This will help them gain rewards from Allah Almighty and draw closer to Him through their devotion.
