Sunan an-Nasai 2316 (Book 22, Hadith 227) #16927
Abrogation of Fidyah for Those Who Cannot Fast

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that when a certain verse of the Quran was revealed, those who could not fast due to difficulty were given the option to feed a poor person instead. However, this was abrogated by another verse.

It was narrated that salamah bin Al-Akwa said: "When this verse was revealed 'And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (eg an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a miskin (poor person) (for every day). Those among us who did not want to fast would pay the fidyah, until the verse after it was revealed and abrogated this".

QUICK LESSONS:
Help others in need, Accept Allah's commands without question or hesitation .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains an important concept in Islam which is abrogation. It states that when a certain verse of the Quran was revealed, those who could not fast due to difficulty were given the option to feed a poor person instead. However, this was later abrogated by another verse which meant that they no longer had this option and would have to fast if they were able. This teaches us an important lesson about how Allah can change His rulings and commands as He wills and we must accept it without question or hesitation. It also shows us how important it is for us to help those in need as Allah has commanded us to do so through feeding the poor even if we cannot fulfill our religious obligations such as fasting during Ramadan due to difficulty or illness.
