Fasting While Travelling

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad advised Hamzah Al-Aslami to fast while travelling if he wished, but also gave him the option to not fast.

It was narrated from Aishah that Hamzah Al-Aslami asked the Messenger of Allah about fasting while traveling as he was a man who used to fast continually. He said: "If you wish then fast and if you wish then do not fast".
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ حَمْزَةَ الأَسْلَمِيَّ، سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ فِي السَّفَرِ وَكَانَ رَجُلاً يَسْرُدُ الصِّيَامَ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ إِنْ شِئْتَ فَصُمْ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَأَفْطِرْ

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad was asked by Hamzah Al-Aslami about fasting while travelling. He gave him the choice to either fast or not, depending on what he wished. This hadith teaches us that we have a choice in our lives and that it is important for us to make decisions based on what we think is best for ourselves. We should always strive to do what is right and beneficial for us, even if it means making difficult choices at times. It also teaches us that we should respect other people's choices and decisions even if they differ from ours.
