Waiving of Fasting and Prayer for Travelers

SUMMARY: Allah has waived fasting and half of the prayer for travelers.

It was narrated from Hani bin 'Abdullah bin Ash-Shikhkhir from Balharish, from a man from Balharish, that his father said: "we had been traveling for as long as Allah willed, then we came to the Messenger of Allah and he was eating. He said: 'Come and eat'. I said: 'I am fasting'. The Messenger of Allah said: 'I will tell you about fasting. Allah has waived fasting and half of the prayer for the traveler"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be considerate towards those who are travelling .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the waiving of fasting and half of the prayer for travelers. It was narrated by Hani bin 'Abdullah bin Ash-Shikhkhir from Balharish that his father said they were traveling when they came to meet the Messenger of Allah who was eating at that time. He invited them to eat but one among them said he was fasting. The Messenger then told him about how Allah has waived fasting and half of the prayer for travelers so that it would be easier on them during their journey. This hadith teaches us that we should be considerate towards those who are traveling as it can be difficult on them due to their long journeys and thus Allah has made allowances in terms of religious obligations such as fasting and prayers so that they can focus more on their travels without having to worry too much about fulfilling religious obligations while away from home.
