The Shield of Fasting

SUMMARY: Fasting is a shield that protects one from the evil of this world.

It was narrated that Muadh bin Jabal said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Fasting is a shield".
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُرْوَةَ بْنَ النَّزَّالِ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ مُعَاذٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Muadh bin Jabal states that fasting is a shield. This means that fasting can protect us from the evils and temptations of this world. It is an act of worship which helps us to stay away from bad deeds and focus on our relationship with Allah SWT. By fasting, we are able to strengthen our faith and become closer to Allah SWT. It also teaches us patience, self-control, and discipline in our lives as Muslims.

Fasting also has many physical benefits such as improving digestion, reducing cholesterol levels, and helping with weight loss. In addition to these physical benefits, it can also help us spiritually by increasing our awareness of Allah SWT’s presence in our lives and helping us stay focused on His commands throughout the day.
