The Rewards of Fasting

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that fasting is a shield and has many rewards, and the smell of a fasting person is better than musk.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "There is no good deed that the son of Adam does, but between ten and seven hundred Hasanahs will be recorded for him. Allah, the mighty and sublime, said: 'Except fasting, for it is for me and I shall reward for it. He gives up his desires and his food for my sake. Fasting is a shield, and the fasting person has two moments of joy. One when he breaks his fast and another when he meets his Lord. And the smell that comes from the mouth of the fasting person is better before Allah than the fragrance of musk"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Do good deeds; Fast; Worship God; Have patience; Be disciplined

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us about the importance of fasting in Islam. He said that for every good deed we do, between ten and seven hundred rewards will be recorded for us. However, he said that fasting was special because it was done solely for God's sake. He also said that when we fast, it acts as a shield from our sins and gives us two moments of joy - one when we break our fast and another when we meet our Lord on the Day of Judgment. Furthermore, he said that the smell coming from the mouth of a fasting person is better before Allah than even musk! This hadith teaches us to be mindful about how much reward comes with each good deed we do in life - especially those related to worshiping God - as well as how important it is to fast during Ramadan or any other time throughout the year.
