Sunan an-Nasai 2212 (Book 22, Hadith 123) #16823
The Joys and Rewards of Fasting

SUMMARY: Fasting is a form of worship that Allah rewards and brings joy to the fasting person. The smell of the fasting person is better than musk in the eyes of Allah.

It was narrated from Abu Al-Ahwas that 'Abdullah said: "Allah, may He be exalted, said: 'Fasting is for me and I shall reward for it. The fasting person has two moments of joy: When he breaks his fast and when he meets his Lord. And the smell that comes from the mouth of the fasting person is better before Allah than the fragrance of musk"'. '

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance and rewards of fasting. It was narrated from Abu Al-Ahwas that 'Abdullah said that Allah said “Fasting is for me and I shall reward for it”, meaning that when a person fasts, they are doing an act of worship for Allah which He will reward them for. The hadith also mentions two moments of joy experienced by those who fast - when they break their fast at night time, and when they meet their Lord on Judgement Day. Lastly, it states that the smell coming from a fasting person's mouth is better than musk in front of Allah - this could be interpreted as referring to how pure one's intentions are while fasting or how much effort one puts into abstaining from food during Ramadan or other times throughout the year.
