Sahur Before Praying

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions having Sahur (pre-dawn meal) before praying.

It was narrated from Anas that Zaid bin Thabit said: "We had Sahur with the Messenger of Allah then we went to pray". I (one of the narrators) said: "It is claimed that Anas said: 'How long was there between them?' He said: 'As long as it takes a man to recite fifty verses".
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، قَالَ تَسَحَّرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ قُمْنَا إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ زُعِمَ أَنَّ أَنَسًا الْقَائِلُ مَا كَانَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ قَدْرَ مَا يَقْرَأُ الرَّجُلُ خَمْسِينَ آيَةً

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of having a pre-dawn meal, known as sahur, before praying salah. It was narrated from Anas that Zaid bin Thabit said that they had sahur with the Messenger of Allah then went to pray. When asked how long was there between them, he said it takes as long as it takes a man to recite fifty verses. This shows us how important it is to have sahur before prayer in order to be energized for worshiping Allah SWT and also shows us the importance of reciting Quran verses in our daily lives.
