Calculating Fasting Time During Ramadan

SUMMARY: The Prophet advised not to start or end fasting until the crescent moon is visible, and if it is too cloudy, then calculate the time of the month.

QUICK LESSONS:
Wait until you can see the crescent moon before starting your fasts; Use knowledge and resources in order fulfill religious obligations; Be patient while waiting for certain things; Do what you can in order achieve goals .

EXPLANATIONS:
During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims are obligated to fast from sunrise to sunset. This hadith explains how one should go about determining when to start and end their fasts. The Prophet Muhammad advised that one should wait until they can see the crescent moon before beginning their fasts and wait until they can see it again before ending them. If it is too cloudy for them to be able to see it, then they should calculate when the new month begins instead. This hadith teaches us that we must use our knowledge and resources in order to fulfill our religious obligations even if we cannot physically observe something like a crescent moon due to weather conditions or other factors. It also emphasizes that we must be patient in waiting for certain things as long as we are doing what we can in order for us to achieve our goals.
