EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. It was narrated by Abu Hurairah, a companion of Prophet Muhammad, that he said "When you see the crescent then fast, and when you crescent then fast, and when you see it, stop fasting. If it is obscured from you (too cloudy), then fast thirty days". This means that once we spot the new moon or crescent in the sky at night marking the start of Ramadan, we should begin our fasting for this month. When we spot another new moon or crescent in the sky at night marking its end, we should stop our fasting for this month. However if due to bad weather conditions such as clouds or fog obscuring visibility of this new moon/crescent in some areas on that day then they should continue their fast for 30 days until they can sight it themselves. This hadith emphasizes on following Islamic teachings regarding observing religious duties such as fasting during Ramadan with utmost sincerity and dedication even if one cannot sight a new moon/crescent due to bad weather conditions in their area.
