Washing a Deceased Person

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) instructed to start washing a deceased person from the right side beginning with those parts which are washed in ablution.

Narrated Um-'Atiya: That the Prophet at the time of washing his deceased daughter had said to them, "Start from the right side beginning with those parts which are washed in ablution".
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ لَهُنَّ فِي غُسْلِ ابْنَتِهِ ‏ "‏ ابْدَأْنَ بِمَيَامِنِهَا وَمَوَاضِعِ الْوُضُوءِ مِنْهَا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the instructions given by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ regarding washing of a deceased person. It is narrated by Um-'Atiya that the Prophet ﷺ said to start from the right side beginning with those parts which are washed in ablution. This hadith teaches us that we should follow proper procedure while performing any task, even if it is related to something as solemn as washing of a deceased person. We should also take care of our hygiene and cleanliness, and perform ablutions regularly for spiritual purification.
