Sunan an-Nasai 2058 (Book 21, Hadith 241) #16669
The Warning of Grave Torment

SUMMARY: The Prophet heard a sound from a grave and was delighted to learn that the deceased had died during the Jahiliyyah, but he warned them of the torment of the grave.

It was narrated from Anas that the Prophet heard a sound from a grave and said: "When died this man die?" They said: "he died during the Jahiliyyah". So he was delighted and said: "Were it not that you would not bury one another, I would have prayed to Allah to make you hear the torment of the grave".

QUICK LESSONS:
Remember Allah's judgment , strive for good deeds , take heed of warnings .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Prophet Muhammad heard a sound coming from a grave and asked who it belonged to. He was told that it belonged to someone who died during the time before Islam, known as al-Jahiliyah. He was pleased with this news but then warned those around him about the torment of graves. This teaches us that even though we may be happy when someone dies in faith, we should still remember that Allah will judge everyone according to their deeds and they will face consequences for their actions in this life and in the hereafter. We should also take heed from this warning and strive to do good deeds so that we can be saved from any punishment or torment in our graves or on Judgment Day.
