Burying the Dead After Battle of Uhud

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed people to bury the dead from the Battle of Uhud in graves, with those who knew more Qur'an being buried first.

It was narrated from Sa'eed bin Hisham bin 'Amir that his father said: "On the day of Uhud some of the people among the Muslims were killed, and people were wounded. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Dig graves and make them wide, and bury two or three in a grave, and put the one who knew more Qur'an in first"'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a situation that occurred after the battle of Uḥūd. In this battle, some Muslims were killed and others were wounded. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed people to dig graves for those who died and make them wide enough to fit two or three bodies in each grave. He also said that those who knew more Qur’an should be buried first. This hadith teaches us about respecting and honoring those who have passed away by burying them properly according to Islamic teachings, as well as respecting knowledge and wisdom by giving precedence to those with more knowledge when it comes to burial rites. It also teaches us about taking care of our fellow Muslims even after death by burying them together in one grave if possible, so they can be close even after death.
