This hadith highlights the importance of reciting Fatihat Al-Kitab during funeral prayer. It was narrated by Talhah bin 'Abdullah that he offered the funeral prayer behind Ibn 'Abbas and heard him reciting Fatihat Al-Kitab. When he finished, Talhah asked him if he had indeed recited it and Ibn 'Abbas replied in affirmation saying that it is a truth and a sunnah. This hadith emphasizes on following the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ which includes reading from the Quran during funerals as well as other occasions such as salaah or namaz. It also teaches us to be mindful of our actions and to follow what has been prescribed by Allah SWT in order to gain His blessings and mercy.
