Funeral Prayer of An-Najashi

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) offered the funeral prayer for An-Najashi and his Companions formed rows behind him.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah announced the death of An-Najashi to his Companions in Al-Madinah, so they formed rows behind him and he offered the funeral prayer for him, saying the Takbir four times".
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، وَأَبِي، سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ نَعَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ النَّجَاشِيَّ لأَصْحَابِهِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَصَفُّوا خَلْفَهُ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ وَكَبَّرَ أَرْبَعًا ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ابْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ إِنِّي لَمْ أَفْهَمْهُ كَمَا أَرَدْتَ

This hadith narrates the story of when the Prophet Muhammad PBUH announced the death of An-Najashi to his companions in Al-Madinah. His companions then formed rows behind him and he offered a funeral prayer for him, saying the Takbir four times. This hadith teaches us that it is important to show respect and honour to those who have passed away by offering a funeral prayer for them. It also shows us how much respect and reverence was given to An-Najashi by having all of his companions form rows behind him as he prayed for him.
