Characteristics of a True Believer

SUMMARY: Striking one's cheeks, rending one's garment, and calling out the calls of the Jahiliyyah are not characteristics of a true believer.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'He is not one of us who strikes his cheeks, rends his garment, calls out the calls of the Jahiliyyah"'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of having faith in Allah and living according to His teachings. It is narrated that 'Abdullah said that the Messenger of Allah said that those who strike their cheeks, rend their garments, and call out the calls of the Jahiliyyah are not true believers. The term "Jahiliyyah" refers to pre-Islamic times when people did not follow Islamic teachings or laws. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to live our lives according to Islamic principles and avoid any actions or behaviors associated with pre-Islamic times. We should also remember that our actions reflect our faith in Allah; if we do something wrong or un-Islamic, it shows a lack of belief in Him. Therefore, it is important for us to be mindful about how we act so as not to go against His teachings.
