Glorifying Allah in Witr Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to recite certain verses in his witr prayer and would end it with a glorification of Allah.

Mansur reported from Salamah bin Kuhail, from Sa'eed bin Abdur-Rahman bin Abza, from his father, who said: "The Messenger of Allah used to recite in witr: Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High;" and "Say: O you disbelievers!;' and 'Say: He is Allah, (the) One'. And when he said the taslim, he would say: Subhanal-Malikil-Quddus (Glory be to the Sovereign, the Most Holy) three times, elongating his words the third time".

This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's practice of reciting certain verses during his witr prayer. Witr is an optional prayer that Muslims perform at night after Isha prayers. In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad recited three verses from the Quran - "Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High," "Say O you disbelievers!," and "Say He is Allah, One." After reciting these verses he would say Subhanal-Malikil-Quddus three times elongating his words on the third time. This hadith teaches us to glorify Allah by praising Him for His greatness and power as well as to recite His words with reverence and respect. It also reminds us that we should not forget our faith even when faced with disbelief or opposition from others.
