Reciting Specific Verses During Witr Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to recite specific verses in each of the three rak'ahs of witr prayer.

It was narrated that Ubayy bin Ka'b said: "In the first rak'ah of witr, the Messenger of Allah used to recite: "GLorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High;" in the second; "Say: O you disbelievers!" and in the third; "Say: He is Allah, (the) One".
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَقْرَأُ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الأُولَى مِنَ الْوَتْرِ بِـ ‏{‏ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى ‏}‏ وَفِي الثَّانِيَةِ بِـ ‏{‏ قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ ‏}‏ وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ بِـ ‏{‏ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
According to a hadith narrated by Ubayy bin Ka’b, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to recite specific verses during each of the three rak’ahs of witr prayer. In the first rak’ah, he would recite “Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High;” in the second; “Say: O you disbelievers!” and in the third; “Say: He is Allah, One.” This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful and intentional when reciting our prayers and that we should strive for excellence in our worship. It also reminds us that Allah is one and there is no other god besides Him.
