His friend advised him to do three things; pray witr at the beginning of the night, pray two rak'ahs for fajr and fast three days each month. Praying witr is an important part of Islamic prayer as it is a voluntary prayer that can be done after Isha prayer or before fajr prayer. It consists of an odd number from one to eleven rak’ahs with a single tasleem at its end. Additionally, fasting three days each month has many benefits such as increasing one's taqwa or piety towards Allah SWT and helping in self-discipline.
