The Sunnah of Witr Prayer

SUMMARY: Witr is not an obligatory prayer, but it is a sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

It was narrated that Ali, may Allah (SWT) be pleased with him, said: "Witr is not essential like the obligatory prayers, but it is the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ".

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform voluntary prayers such as witr .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us that witr prayer is not an obligatory prayer like the five daily prayers, but it is a sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). A sunnah is something that was practiced by the Prophet and encouraged for Muslims to do as well. It has been narrated by Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, that witr should be performed as it was done by the Messenger of Allah. Therefore, Muslims should strive to perform this voluntary prayer in order to follow in the footsteps of our beloved Prophet.
