Prayers at Night

SUMMARY: The hadith explains how to offer prayers at night, two by two and if dawn is near, one should offer witr prayer.

It was narrated that Ibn Umar said: "A man from among the Muslims asked the Messenger of Allah : 'How are prayers at night to be done?' He said: 'prayers at night are (offered) two by two, then if you fear that dawn will come, pray witr with one'."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ، عَنْ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ صَلاَةُ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ صَلاَةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خِفْتَ الصُّبْحَ فَأَوْتِرْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the importance of offering prayers at night. It was narrated by Ibn Umar that a man from among the Muslims asked the Messenger of Allah about how to offer prayers at night. The Prophet replied that it should be done in pairs and if dawn is near, one should offer witr prayer. This hadith teaches us the importance of offering prayers regularly and on time as prescribed by Islam. It also emphasizes on being mindful of time and not letting it pass away without offering our due worship to Allah Almighty. Moreover, this hadith also teaches us about being punctual in our religious obligations so that we can reap its rewards in both worlds - this world and hereafter.
