EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates the story of Prophet Muhammad's night prayer and how he taught his nephew, Abdullah bin 'Abbas, how to perform it. It is reported that one night, Abdullah was sleeping in the house of Maimunah who was his maternal aunt and also the wife of Prophet Muhammad. At midnight or a little before or after that time, Prophet Muhammad woke up and began to rub sleep from his face with his hand. He then recited the last ten verses from Surah Al Imran before getting up to perform wudu from a water skin hanging nearby. After completing wudu properly he stood up for prayer and called upon Abdullah who followed suit by doing what he saw him do. Then they both prayed two rak'ahs each until witr was completed after which they lay down until the mu’adhhin came for fajr prayers at which point they prayed two brief rak’ahs again. This hadith teaches us about being punctual in our prayers especially during nights as well as teaching us about proper ablution before praying salaah which is an important part of Islamic worship rituals prescribed by Allah SWT in Quran and Sunnah teachings through His beloved messenger PBUH .
