Delivering Sermons in the Time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to deliver sermons while standing, and then sit for a while before standing up again.

It was narrated that Simak said: "I asked Jabir: 'Did the Messenger of Allah deliver the Khutbah standing?' He said: 'The Messenger of Allah used to deliver the Khutbah standing, then he would sit for a while, then stand up again'."
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَخْطُبُ قَائِمًا قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَخْطُبُ قَائِمًا ثُمَّ يَقْعُدُ قَعْدَةً ثُمَّ يَقُومُ

This hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad used to deliver his sermons. It was narrated by Simak who asked Jabir if the Messenger of Allah delivered his sermon while standing or sitting. Jabir replied that he used to deliver it while standing, and then sit for a while before standing up again. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful when delivering our sermons, as this is how it was done in the time of the Prophet Muhammad.
