Sunan an-Nasai 1558 (Book 19, Hadith 3) #16169
Attending Eid Prayers

SUMMARY: Umm Atiyyah would always express her love and admiration for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) when speaking of him, and she encouraged adolescent girls, women in seclusion, and menstruating women to attend the Eid prayers but keep away from the prayer place.

It was narrated that Hafsah said: "Umm 'Atiyyah would never mention the Messenger of Allah without saying: 'May my father be ransomed for him'. I said: 'Did you hear the Messenger of Allah say such-and-such?' And she said: 'Yes, may my father be ransomed for him'. He said: Let the adolescent girls, women in seclusion and menstruating women come out and attend the 'Eid and supplications of the Muslims, but let the menstruating women keep away from the prayer place".

QUICK LESSONS:
Attend Eid Prayers; Express Love & Admiration for Prophet Muhammad PBUH; Follow Islamic Teachings

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of Umm Atiyyah's love for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). She would always express her admiration for him whenever she spoke of him. The hadith also encourages adolescent girls, women in seclusion, and menstruating women to attend the 'Eid prayers but keep away from the prayer place. This is because during their menstrual cycle they are considered impure according to Islamic teachings. It is important that we follow these teachings as it is a way of showing our respect towards Allah SWT. We should also strive to emulate Umm Atiyyah's love for Prophet Muhammad PBUH by expressing our admiration whenever we speak about him.
