The Prayer of Fear

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) leading a prayer with two rows of people, and how they moved around to ensure everyone was able to prostrate.

It was narrated that Jabir said: "We witnessed the fear prayer with the Messenger of Allah . We stood behind him in two rows, and the enemy was between us and the Qiblah. The Messenger of Allah said the takbir. He bowed and we bowed, and he stood up again and we stood up. When he went down in prostration, the Messenger of Allah and those who were closest to him prostrated, and the second row remained standing until the Messenger of Allah and the row closest to him stood up. Then the second row prostrated when the Messenger of Allah had stood up, where they were. Then the row that had been closest to the Prophet moved back and the second row moved forward, each standing in the place where the other had been. The Prophet bowed and we bowed, then he stood up and we stood up, and when he went down in prostration, those who were closest to him prostrated and the others remained standing. When the Messenger of Allah and those who were closest to him sat up, the others prostrated, then he said the taslim".

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray together as one body without leaving anyone out or forgotten during this important act of worship .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of prayer in Islam, and how it should be done. It was narrated by Jabir that he witnessed the fear prayer with the Messenger of Allah. In this prayer, there were two rows standing behind him facing towards the Qiblah. When it came time for prostration, those closest to him would prostrate first while those further away remained standing until they could move forward and take their place in prostration. After each row had taken their turn in prostration, they would move back and forth so that everyone could have a chance to be close enough to prostrate at once with the Prophet Muhammad. This shows us that Muslims should always strive for unity when praying together as one body, and that no one should be left out or forgotten during this important act of worship.
