The Commandment of Prayer

SUMMARY: Allah (SWT) commanded the Prophet ﷺ to pray four rak'ahs while at home, two rak'ahs while traveling, and one rak'ah during times of fear.

It was narrated that Ibn Abbas said: "Allah (SWT) enjoined the prayer on the tongue of your Prophet : four (rak'ahs) while a resident, two rak'ahs while traveling, and one rak'ah during times of fear".
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ الأَخْنَسِ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ فَرَضَ اللَّهُ الصَّلاَةَ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّكُمْ فِي الْحَضَرِ أَرْبَعًا وَفِي السَّفَرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَفِي الْخَوْفِ رَكْعَةً

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the commandment of prayer from Allah SWT to His Prophet. It states that when a person is at home, they should pray four Rak’ahs; when traveling, two Rak’ahs; and in times of fear, one Rak’ah. This hadith teaches us that prayer is an obligation for all Muslims and it must be done regularly no matter what situation we are in. We should also remember that even if we are scared or in danger, we should still take time out to pray as it will bring us closer to Allah SWT and give us peace of mind.
