Sunan an-Nasai 1460 (Book 16, Hadith 2) #16071
Praying During Solar Eclipse

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) praying during a solar eclipse.

'Abdur-Rahman bin Samurah said: "While I was (practicing) shooting some arrows in Al-Madinah, the sun became eclipsed. I gathered up my arrows and said: 'I want to see what the Messenger of Allah will say about the eclipse of the sun'. So I came to him from behind when he was in the masjid, and he started to say the tasbih and takbir and to supplicate until the eclipse was over. Then he stood up and prayed two rak'ahs with four prostrations".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's reaction to a solar eclipse. When 'Abdur-Rahman bin Samurah was practicing shooting arrows in Al Madinah, he noticed that the sun was eclipsed and decided to see what the Prophet would do. He found him in the masjid saying tasbih and takbir and supplicating until the eclipse was over. After that he stood up and prayed two rak'ahs with four prostrations. This hadith teaches us that when something unexpected happens we should turn to Allah for help and guidance instead of panicking or worrying too much about it. We should also remember to be thankful for all of Allah's blessings even if they are taken away from us temporarily like during an eclipse or any other natural phenomenon.
