Praying Two Rak'ahs When Late to Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that if one arrives late to the prayer, they should pray two Rak'ahs.

It was narrated that 'Amr bin Dinar said: "I heard Jabir bin 'Abdullah say: 'The Messenger of Allah said: "If any one of you comes and the Imam has appeared, let him pray two Rak'ahs. Shu'bah (one of the narrators) said: "On Friday".

QUICK LESSONS:
Make an effort by praying two rak’ah when arriving late at a prayer; Show respect for Allah and Imam leading prayers; Strive towards doing good deeds no matter how small or insignificant they may seem.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that if we arrive late to a prayer, we should still make an effort to pray two rak’ahs. A rak’ah is a unit of prayer in Islam and it consists of standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting. It is important for Muslims to make sure they are punctual when attending prayers as it shows respect for Allah and the Imam leading the prayer. However, if one does arrive late then this hadith teaches us that we should still make an effort by praying two rak’ahs even though it may not be enough time for a full prayer. This shows us how important it is in Islam to always strive towards doing good deeds no matter how small or insignificant they may seem.
