The Correct Way to Perform Tashahhud Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught the correct way to perform the tashahhud prayer.

It was narrated from 'Amir bin Abdullah bin Az-Zubair, from his father, that: When the Messenger of Allah sat to say the tashahhud, he placed his left hand on his left thigh and pointed with his forefinger, and his gaze did not go beyond he finger with which he was pointing.
أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلاَنَ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ إِذَا قَعَدَ فِي التَّشَهُّدِ وَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُسْرَى وَأَشَارَ بِالسَّبَّابَةِ لاَ يُجَاوِزُ بَصَرُهُ إِشَارَتَهُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the correct way of performing the tashahhud prayer. According to this hadith, when sitting for tashahhud prayer one should place their left hand on their left thigh and point with their forefinger while keeping their gaze focused on it. This is a sign of respect and humility towards Allah as we are focusing our attention solely on Him during this prayer. It also teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and pay attention to even small details in order to show respect for Allah's commands.
