Prayer and Prostration

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ prayed and performed two prostrations after the prayer.

It was narrated from Ibn Buhainah that: The Prophet prayed and stood up following the first two rak'ahs, and they said (SubhanAllah). He carried on, then when he finished his prayer he performed two prostrations, then he said the Salam.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سَيْفٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنِ ابْنِ بُحَيْنَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى فَقَامَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فَسَبَّحُوا فَمَضَى فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ صَلاَتِهِ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ

This hadith is about the importance of prayer and prostration in Islam. It was narrated from Ibn Buhainah that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) prayed and stood up following the first two rak'ahs, then when he finished his prayer he performed two prostrations. This shows us that it is important to perform prostration after our prayers as a sign of humility before Allah. It also teaches us to be mindful of our prayers by standing up between each rak'ah. Furthermore, it teaches us to end our prayers with salam which is a form of greeting in Islam.
