Sunan an-Nasai 1125 (Book 12, Hadith 97) #15733
Seeking Forgiveness from Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad was found prostrating and asking Allah for forgiveness for his sins, both those he committed openly and those he concealed.

It was narrated that Aishah said: "I noticed that the Messenger of Allah was missing and I thought he had gone to visit one of his concubines, so I looked for him and found him prostrating and saying: 'Rabbighfirli ma asrartu wa ma a'lant (O Allah, forgive me for what (sin) I have concealed and what I have done openly)'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek repentance from Allah no matter how small your sin may be.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of repentance and seeking forgiveness from Allah. It is narrated that Aishah noticed the Prophet Muhammad was missing and she thought he had gone to visit one of his concubines. However, when she looked for him she found him prostrating in prayer and saying “Rabbighfirli ma asrartu wa ma a'lant” which translates to “O Allah forgive me for what I have concealed and what I have done openly”. This shows us that even though the Prophet Muhammad was a messenger of God who did not commit any sins, he still asked for forgiveness from God out of humility. It teaches us that we should always seek repentance from God no matter how small our sins may be because He is All-Forgiving and Merciful.
