How to Pray Like the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the prayer of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and how he performed it.

It was narrated that Salim said: "We came to Abu Mas'ud and said to him: 'Tell us about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah '. He stood in front of us and said the takbir, then when he bowed he placed his palms on his knees and put his fingers lower than that, and he held his elbows out from his sides until every part of him had settled. Then he said: Sami' Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal-hamd (Allah hears those who praise Him, our Lord, and to You be the praise), then he stood up until every part of him had settled".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates how the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to perform his prayers. He would start with a takbir and then bow down with his palms on his knees and fingers lower than that, while keeping his elbows away from his sides until every part of him was settled. Then he would recite "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal-hamd" before standing up again until every part of him was settled. This hadith teaches us that we should take our time when performing our prayers and be mindful of our posture in order to get closer to God through prayer. We should also recite certain phrases such as "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal-hamd" during prayer in order to show gratitude towards God for all His blessings upon us.
