Reciting Long Surahs in Maghrib Prayer

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) reciting a long surah in Maghrib prayer.

It was narrated from Zaid bin Thabit that : He said to Marwan: "O Abu Abdul-Malik, do you recite: 'Say: He is Allah, (the) One' and 'Verily, We have granted you Al-Kawthar' in maghrib?" He said: "Yes". He (Zaid) said: "I swear by Allah, I saw the Messenger of Allah reciting the longer of the two long surahs in it: 'Alif-Lam-Mim-Sad'."
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ أَبِي الأَسْوَدِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُرْوَةَ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِمَرْوَانَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ أَتَقْرَأُ فِي الْمَغْرِبِ بِـ ‏{‏ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ‏}‏ وَ ‏{‏ إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ ‏}‏ قَالَ نَعَمْ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَمَحْلُوفَةٌ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَقْرَأُ فِيهَا بِأَطْوَلِ الطُّولَيَيْنِ ‏{‏ المص

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's practice of reciting a long surah during his maghrib prayer. Zaid bin Thabit asked Marwan Abu Abdul-Malik if he recited two verses from the Quran during maghrib, to which he replied yes. Zaid then swore by Allah that he saw the Prophet recite a longer surah during maghrib, specifically Alif-Lam-Mim-Sad. This hadith teaches us that it is important to recite longer surahs during our prayers and to take time for our worship of Allah. It also shows us how much respect we should have for the teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad and strive to follow them as closely as possible.
