Reciting with an Imam and Prostration

SUMMARY: The hadith is about reciting with the Imam and how the Prophet did not prostrate when he heard a verse from the Quran.

It was narrated from Ata' bin Yasar that: He asked Zaid bin Thabit about reciting with the Imam. He said: "There is no recitation with the Imam in anything". And he claimed that he had recited: "By the star when it goes down (or vanishes)" to the Messenger of Allah and he did not prostrate.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about reciting with an imam in prayer. It was narrated by Ata' bin Yasar that he asked Zaid bin Thabit about reciting with the imam. Zaid said that there is no recitation with the imam in anything. He also claimed that he had recited a verse from the Quran to Prophet Muhammad but he did not prostrate. This teaches us that we should not recite along with an imam during prayer and it also shows us how important it is to listen attentively when we hear verses of the Quran being read out loud as even Prophet Muhammad did not prostrate when hearing one of its verses. We should take this lesson to heart and strive to be attentive whenever we hear verses of Allah's book being read out loud so that we can benefit from them fully.
